I don’t know anyone who gets excited about waiting. Perhaps you do, but I don’t know anyone who has ever said “yay, we get to wait in line to see the movie”, or “I’m so looking forward to waiting for my meal to come.” If we are really honest, when we learn that we have to wait or we see the line wrapped around the building we roll our eyes, start complaining or contemplate other options that require a shorter or no wait time! Okay…maybe that’s just me (at least one of us is being honest- haha)!
Depending on what you are waiting for, the wait time can be enjoyable (waiting 9 months for your baby) or painful (waiting for healing). Either way, as Christians, when we wait, we wait differently than those who do not belong to Jesus Christ. When we wait, we wait on the Lord.
"I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in His word do I hope".
Psalm 130:5 (KJV)
This word for “wait” is the Hebrew word qavah meaning to expect or to look. The idea to this word is that the waiting is with expectancy and what we are expecting is based on the Word of God. Regardless of what we are waiting for, we place our hope in Jesus Christ.
According to Psalm 27:14 when we wait on the Lord, we are to be of good courage. Good courage means we do not waver, faint or quit; we don’t check out!! Instead we must continue to trust in the Lord and declare His word and His promises. We can be courageous as we wait because God is our help and our shield (Psalm 33:20). This verse of scripture does not say that He will give us help and a shield, it says HE IS our help and our shield. As we wait on Him with expectancy, He gives us what we need and protects us during the entire process.
So what do you do while you are waiting? Do the will of God. Isaiah 26:8 "Lord, we show our trust in You by obeying Your laws; our heart’s desire is to glorify Your name".
Too often we can become discouraged during the wait and give in to the temptation to abandon God's way do things our way or just give up all together. God does not get the glory when we quit! We must see this thing to the end and trust the Lord even when we do not know exactly how things will work out. During these times, we hope in His Word. Isaiah 40:31 says “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” God Himself renews our strength!! He keeps giving us the strength to endure. He fortifies us throughout the process.
We are daughters of the King! We are not built to quit! We are built to endure to the end! We Win!!
God bless you. Stay encouraged.
