“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 NLT How many times have we heard, read or said this verse of scripture? I know I’ve said it many times and it’s certainly an exciting verse of scripture! But it’s also comforting when read in full context because God said this to the people of Israel right after He told them they would be taken into Babylonian captivity. Wait...what? Why wouldn’t the Almighty God just deliver them and keep them from ever being taken? The Christian life is not... I repeat NOT a life of bon bons and endless vacations (sounds good to me!). There will be trials, temptations and afflictions. Some of them are due to our own sins and some of them happen just because we live in a sinful world. BUT we have a promise from OUR Father- that His plans for us are good plans for a future and a hope. Sometimes we want God to just keep us from ever having to go through the trials of life. Sometimes He does...but sometimes we, like Daniel, are thrown right into the lion’s den. But these are the times when God shows Himself strong and mighty, merciful and faithful in our lives. Today’s trial and setback is by no means a cancellation of the good plan God has for you as His child. His plan shall come to pass. We have to believe that. We have to trust Him and keep living the life that He has empowered us to live!
